for campers entering grades 2 & 3 in all locations
MIDDLE CAMPERS spend most of their days out-of-doors in the green and glorious natural environment of Prospect Park; that is when they’re not away on one of two weekly trips, or out at the beach. Middle Camp weeks are built around a theme that comes alive in the songs we sing, the arts and crafts we make, the games we play, and a very special event.
We encourage campers to explore their interests by allowing them to choose specialty activities for themselves. We teach campers the importance of friendship, cooperation, and respect for the environment in which we live by modeling this behavior and incorporating these values into our expectations of campers and staff. We offer a variety of traditional camp activities like horseback riding, and swim. Our ongoing staff training incorporates our weekly themes, and the result is personal growth for campers and staff alike.
Middle Camp is a transitional program that retains some familiar elements of Junior Camp while offering new specialty activities, an extra half-day trip, and more freedom of choice.
A typical week in Middle Camp
- A full day trip to places like Adventureland, a minor league baseball game, a farm where we pick our own fruits and vegetables and play in the fields, roller skating. One big trip to Sesame Place or the equivalent!
- Half day trips such as rock climbing, bowling, gymnastics, or a movie
- A half-day super-duper event based on our theme of the week
- Twice a week Middle Campers choose their own clubs. Club activities include tennis, arts and crafts, music, theater, sports, nature, self-defense and much more, all done in the playing fields or under the huge shade trees in Prospect Park.
- One morning at Manhattan Beach and two afternoons of instructional swim at the Red Hook pool
Middle Camp can easily be combined with Cirque d’Été (grades PK-5) or Sports Academy (grades 1-5). These programs begin July 9 and run in two week sessions.
